Welcome to Michigan! I live in Holland, MI, which is on the Lake Michigan side over by Grand Rapids. Unfortunately, you'll be on the 'wrong' side of the Lower Peninsula, so there'll be a bit of driving to do to get to the best kayaking spots, but better than Dallas by a long shot!

I don't know what your vacation plan is like, but at some point you MUST go to the Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium. It's held in Grand Marais, MI on the south shore of Lake Superior at the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
