I picked up some adjustable height sawhorses at the local Borg, er, Home Depot. They're very stable/sturdy, have separate height adjustments for each leg and fold for storage to about the size of a 2 x 4. I think the price was about $19/sawhorse. For a table, I got a cheap 4 x 8 piece of 5/8" plywood and ripped it in half. When the job is finished, you can always find uses for decent plywood (shelves, etc.).
