I agree with Paul. I built a panache with no filler strips and thick strips.I went through the same worry. There was a lot of tough bending of the strips. Once the strips are stacked and glued they form a solid mass and there won't be any problem. As you sand and fair it, it also relives some of the tension. And, you're going to glass it before it comes off the forms.
