I recommend you do whatever it takes to get everything aligned before committing to glass. If you did one side before aligning the other, you'd probably have an even harder time getting that other side aligned once the first is rigid. Get some stronger tape, get some straps, belts, whatever it takes and get the beastie aligned first.
