It would be an excellent thing for you do to. In fact, probably every new builder should do a bit of this. For nothing else then to see how well they lay glass and to learn about its adhesion. It's quite disapointing to build a wiget and have it fall appart because you laid the glass wrong in innocence. Been there, done that. If I would have tested a smaller sample, I'd not have needed to build the wiget twice.

You would also gain a bit of a feel about these strengths and you. As in do you need to double layer things because you're rough on boats, or will the single layer be enough. So I would say do it and learn. And then build a heck of a boat!
