Dave, I just had some sort of mental block about drilling holes through the hull, and having the bolt heads show on the outside. Plus I'd run accross plans for how to do this on the Southern CA kayak builders web page. (web link should be included below)

Its pretty simple. Get some small blocks of wood, drill and countersink them to accept a stainless steel T-nut. Then glue these blocks in place inside the hull. (I made a jig of a scrap piece of wood with the holes the same space as on the footpegs). Once the epoxy sets, unbolt the jig, and bolt on the footpegs from the inside into the t-nuts in the wood blocks. No bolt heads showing through the hull and they seem to hold just fine. It seems just a little bit cleaner look. Trying to redo the deck hardware for a cleaner look as well, though not sure what the best approach there might be.
