Like Ross, I ended up using "square" edged strips for my pattern. One other option I toyed with (with marginal success)was to use a hand drill with a 3/16" bit. This is only an option if the cove you need to cut is across the width of the strip (not down the length). I marked my cut, then drilled through the strip along that line, and used a coping saw (if needed)to finish the cut. Probably not worth your time unless you've got a whole lot to cut.

In either case, you will need to go to square edges when you approach completion in order to get the strips into place.
