Jim,

I remember the installation now but it is too late. I mounted a padeye to the deck under the coaming and the jam cleat to the opposite side. It seams to work well. If not I'll pull the whole mess and mount it the way you described above. Epoxy is wonderful stuff. I feel like I can fix any mistake. Thanks for the tip on seat location too.
