Belt-Sanders: yea and nay

I used a belt sander on my CLC coamings with great success. (And great care) But I can't see the advantage for using a large, heavy, noisey tool for shaping the sheer clamps or trimming the deck edges when a light, quiet, block plane does the job nearly as fast and with far greater control.
