What is the best way to attach foot braces?

What is the best way to attach foot braces? I am going to install the Yakima footbraces on my Chesapeak 16 and am not sure of the best way to do it. Shout the area be reinforce? Should they be epoxied or glued with something like silicone? I don't mind if the screws are visible outside of the hull. At this point, I am just trying to get the boat on the water since I will be leaving for college next friday. I'm giving up on painting for now and the hatches will probably be duct taped on (won't that look nice). Please help, I must work fast!
