For others dealing with random orbital sanders for the first time: I've never seen one with a felt pad. The two standard forms are hook and loop and a rubber-like pad for pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) discs. A sandpaper sales rep recently advised me at the cabinet shop where I work to clean the PSA pads both to insure adhesion and to remove stuck on paper from the back of discs that can cause irregularities in the sanding pattern. He recommended using denatured alcohol for cleaning.
