I just finished a S&G Chesapeake 17'. While it may be a 'step down' in the amount of craftsmanship required, a well done S&G will still draw "oohs" and "aahs" at the boat ramp. No reason to hang your head :-) .

I built my boat from plans and it was fun/interesting; however, my next boat will be from a kit. Strictly a matter of time for me (and for you too it seems). You'll still get the building, epoxy and varnishing experience but with luck, you'll be finished in time to have it in the water before the end of the summer.
