Narrow hulls

Narrow hulls like those used on tris, and kayaks for that matter, can and do readily exceed there hull speed.

Unfortunately, it's rather hard to keep it up for long if a paddle is your only method of propulsion. Just too much energy required for anything other than a sprint.
