Bob, Keep us posted on what you use for wheels. I think the wide tired cushy wheels would work great for sand but I need to move my kayak over carries from one lake to another and the routes typically have many roots and rocks. This type terrain warrants a large wheel. The problem with small bicycle wheels (12") is the axle length is quite long, probably 3.5 to 4" and will require a large diameter axle. I have access to a unlimited supply of the new plastic hose reels that can be disassembled and the end pieces are avaliable in several sizes that all thread onto the same axle. I have been working on using these as wheels with the ability to change wheel size for the terrain encountered but only the 12" would fit inside the kayak. These reels are very HD and the end pieces (wheels) are almost indestructable. Meanwhile I keep looking for discarded wheels on "junk" day in town.
