Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I guess "gel coat" is a poor choice of words. A gel coat is applied to get a smooth finish. It is usually a coat of resin (any kind) which is allowed to gel, or partially harden. Then the cloth is applied. I usually don't wait, I just paint on some resin, and immediately start laying cloth.
