In my Pygmy Arctic Tern I am installing a center-mounted footbrace I bought from Eric Schade at Shearwater boats. Check out www.shearwater-boats.com. It slides up and down a wooden track that's glued onto the keel seam. To clean up the look of the boat even more, I'd also recommend using Eric's flush deck fittings -- the fittings that came with my Pygmy kit are cheap plastic junk. You will have to drill holes in the deck to use these flush fittings, but I just drilled the holes for mine tonight, inserted the fittings, and am very happy with the look of it.
