You're planing plywood. The best you are going to get is going to be merely satisfactory. Plywood is not a material that planes well, especially when trying to create the fine edge that scarfing dictates.

Fwiw, I found that holding the plane on an angle helps when planing plywood. That way the blade tries to slice like a knife blade. I got less chatter and splintering that way.
