Chris at CLC may kill me for this, but it seems to me to be much ado about nothing. When you attach the deck it will not bend past the fastener, as others have pointed out. You are not holding the deck on with these fasteners though, because you're gooping on thickened epoxy. That epoxy negates the need for critical planing. Of course, the more you plane, the less epoxy you will need in the joint, and theoretically, the less the boat will weigh. Which depends on your ability to prejudge as you goop it on, and how well you can scoop it back out as it squishes.

Do not do what CLC says, at least in their Millcreek manual. Namely making a template of the bulkhead and use that curve to plane the sheer clamps right down to the stem. The radius at the bow is infinite (flat) decreasing progressively up to the bulkhead. So plane with that in mind. Otherwise, you will get the dreaded gaps as mentioned, especially as you near the pointy ends.
