First, thanks for all the responces.

Second, it looks as though I should try out all the various methods with current vehicle. It's a 1983 Caddillac, its got a trailer hitch, I towed one from Boston to Dallas when I moved, so I could pickup a trailer. I also got drip rail clamps ( just the clamps ) so I could build a custom rack to hold the boat. I love the old girl, but she's showing her age. ( $1200 for a tranmission, $800 for the front end ) I don't know if I'd trust her for long hauls again ( 120,000 miles ) She really can't haul more than a kayak (4 liter 120hp engine) it never got into overdrive while driving through the mountains. Great for hauling longs loads ( pitured is my friend strapping some steel beams to it for hauling accross campus ) I'll hold on to her for local putins. I'm not interested in coming back from paddling to see a new car busted into.
