Nicks plans call for a 14'11" beam.I made mine from1/2 ply,and staggered the joints by at least 2 feet on the same dimension,ie, on the sides or the top and bottom,glued and screwed the joints,and left it hollow with fillin pieces about 18 inches apart,each 3 or so inches long to stiffen it.Worked fine,I'm on my second Guillemot.The ends just fit in the hollow core,and were glued in place.
