We're lucky we have wood kayak chores

In this time of lock-downs and reasons to stay home, how lucky we are that we have pastimes like wood boats. I have two boats that are long over-due for a re-varnish job. I also have a coaming that needs repair or an overhaul. I also have a few woodworking jigs and fixtures that have been on the bucket list for quite a while. Its not hard for me to stay busy.  Hopefully we'll all be back to almost normal next year some time.

Stay healthy.

Couldn't agree more Jay.  Having a creative and stress outlet in these challenging times is so helpful.  Thanks for a great design, I think I can see the finish line perhaps by end of year.  Stay safe and healthy.

The downside is that with so many people working on projects, stocks of timber have become depleted in some places.

When I bought my last supply of Paulownia, my supplier apologised for only having a small range of lengths available. He said that supplies were down because "every man and his dog had decided to spend the time on some woodwork project".

It didn't worry me because the lengths he had were the length I wanted.

I have used my covid time to get all of my boats fixed up and get the Mystic River project going. I am back to work and working lots of hours so I can't get much work done on the canoe for now. That said, I lucked out and got all the wood I need due to a lucky find (Sitka spruce and clear yellow cedar) so now I need worry only about how I will heat the garage when I can get back in there. Sadly, snow is in the forecast with a low of -9 C coming up by the weekend. I am still happy about everything though...I have a job, I get a paycheck that funds my wood boat projects, and I have a loving partner who urges me to work on said projects. I do need to buy a new car...my beautiful Honda just got wrote off, so I gotta find another one like it so that my Thule racks fit properly.
