The Forum Slide Show

Submitted byadmin onMon, 04/02/2018 - 11:37

So, I got the slide show working. I've placed it on a couple different pages. The slideshow currently shows a randomly selected set of 10 images at a time. There are more than 10 images available, and the next time you refresh the page a different selection of 10 images will be displayed.

You can add images to the slide show by following this link: Add Slide Show Image. It will have you upload an image and ask for a description. You can only add an image if you are a registered user.

Kayak Forum Issues

Submitted byadmin onFri, 08/28/2020 - 16:54

I apologize for the forum going dead for a few days. I didn't notice right away, but I have spent the last two days tracking down issues. Something infected my directories on my web host with some malware. Two days plus $250 later we are at least back online.

I am trying to update the Kayakforum CMS to the latest version but there is something weird about the configuration and the automatic update system is puking on the project. I could do it the old fashioned way by copying various files into various directories, but it would make life better if the automated system worked.

How to Save Naugahyde Skin on old Folbot Kayak

Submitted byteejay onTue, 08/11/2020 - 14:43

Hey folks!

My father and I are restoring my great grandfather's old Folbot kayak, circa 1981-ish. It has a wooden frame, naugahyde skin, and is non-folding. We're hoping to save and reattach the skin as it is in relatively good condition, although we need to find a way to remove it so we can continue disassembly in order to sand down and refinish the wooden frame.

Feedback needed on plan sources

Submitted bygatorkiter onThu, 07/30/2020 - 09:11

I'm doing research for building my first strip kayak. I'm a skilled woodworker with an outfitted shop, in case you are wondering why plans vs a kit. I also bought the book "Kayak Craft" by Ted Moores.

I see many companies on the web that offer plans. Can I get some feedback on what people here think are the better plan vendors? I know to look for plans with full-sized templates, so I won't have to enlarge the diagrams.

Thanks.

Home-making a keel vs. adding a rudder to Old Town Loon

Submitted byLyn onSun, 06/21/2020 - 02:19

The keel of my old, Old Town Loon kayak is pretty flat, so the boat sways markedly from side to side. I use it on mountain lakes and quiet rivers, where tracking matters more than quick turns.

To improve tracking, I might jerry-rig a keel by duct-taping a strip of wood or plastic molding to the hull. I might blow-dry the tape to soften and set it.

Am I misguided? Or might such a keel last a while? A taped keel would, at least, put no drill holes in the bottom of my boat. And if it didn't help, might I peel it all off and clean up with Goo Gone and Dawn dish detergent?

Pic upload problem

Submitted byJohnAbercrombie onFri, 06/19/2020 - 18:00

When I try to upload an image, I get a message:

1 Error has been found

and

The file could not be uploaded

Images are the usual 100-200kB size 640x480

It's the first time that's happened for me in a while, but I know other users have reported similar problems.

Best Inflatable multipurpose Kayak

Submitted bykayakclimber onTue, 08/13/2019 - 07:50

Hi!

I’m looking for a tandem inflatable kayak for me and my girlfriend. I would need it to be tough (sometimes my 15 kg dog will come with us) and as multifunctional as possible.

I’ve seen the advanced elements convertible elite

and the Bic Yakkair
