The Forum Slide Show

Submitted by admin on Mon, 04/02/2018 - 11:37

So, I got the slide show working. I've placed it on a couple different pages. The slideshow currently shows a randomly selected set of 10 images at a time. There are more than 10 images available, and the next time you refresh the page a different selection of 10 images will be displayed.

You can add images to the slide show by following this link: Add Slide Show Image. It will have you upload an image and ask for a description. You can only add an image if you are a registered user.

Home-making a keel vs. adding a rudder to Old Town Loon

Submitted by Lyn on Sun, 06/21/2020 - 02:19

The keel of my old, Old Town Loon kayak is pretty flat, so the boat sways markedly from side to side. I use it on mountain lakes and quiet rivers, where tracking matters more than quick turns.

To improve tracking, I might jerry-rig a keel by duct-taping a strip of wood or plastic molding to the hull. I might blow-dry the tape to soften and set it.

Am I misguided? Or might such a keel last a while? A taped keel would, at least, put no drill holes in the bottom of my boat. And if it didn't help, might I peel it all off and clean up with Goo Gone and Dawn dish detergent?

Pic upload problem

When I try to upload an image, I get a message:

The file could not be uploaded

Images are the usual 100-200kB size 640x480

It's the first time that's happened for me in a while, but I know other users have reported similar problems.

I’m looking for a tandem inflatable kayak for me and my girlfriend. I would need it to be tough (sometimes my 15 kg dog will come with us) and as multifunctional as possible.

I’ve seen the advanced elements convertible elite

Login problem

Submitted by JohnAbercrombie on Sat, 06/22/2019 - 11:38

I usually stay logged in to this site, but this morning I needed to log in again, so I tried using the link at the upper right under the 'Search Form'.

I got an error:

Redirects to external URLs are not allowed by default, use \Drupal\Core\Routing\TrustedRedirectResponse for it.

This happened several times, until I switched to the 'box' link at the left side above the listing of post topics.

little auk design

Submitted by Jon Parker on Fri, 05/31/2019 - 17:35

Hi All

I'm hoping to build my first kayak soon and I have chosen a Little Auk for my introductory project (hopefully with a curved top deck if I can work out how to plot and make the forms !). I can't afford  plans so I'm working it out as I go. Is building the smaller version of the Great Auk just a matter of shortening the form spacings or is there more to it than that ? Any advice much appreciated...I have a feeling that I might become a regular visitor to this forum !!!

Guillemot end forms

Submitted by Peter Harvey on Thu, 05/09/2019 - 04:34

I’ve just started building a guillemot, using the info in Nick Schade’s book. I have a query on the end form lines as the keel depth on the end forms is deeper than it is on either of the forms against which it comes up against. What is the purpose of this edge or should I be planning it off so that it match the adjacent forms?

Any help/suggestions gratefully received

Just Starting: Attaching Forms to Strongback

Submitted by Michael74 on Fri, 04/19/2019 - 08:35

I just ordered Great Auk kayak plans and read Nick’s book, “The Strip-Built Sea Kayak” as first steps.  I also ordered a 2x4x16 foot LVL construction beam to use as the strong back (I read that this was a better option than a 2x4 because it is more true).  My naive question is how I attach the forms with actual 2” by 4” cutouts to the LVL, which has 1 1/2” by 3 1/2” true dimensions.  Should I try to center a 1.5 x 3.5 inch hole on the form instead of cutout the 2x4 hole, or just try to shim the larger hole to the smaller LVL?
