OK, Etienne - you asked for it

Paddling Experience:
I've been developing balance skills for a number of years by paddling Olympic sprint boats on flat water, and 17" wide surfskis on rough water - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP2rjqvBYlM, so that helps when taking pictures from my Pintail. I've been playing around the area where the pictures were taken for several years, and can position myself in spots of relatively smooth water close to the breaking waves. When shooting I have one hand on the camera, and the other on the paddle which is lying flat in the water beside the boat. Carl has much more experience at this location, and I usually obey his camera placement directions.

Lighting:
The lighting for these shots was very marginal - one was shot straight into the sun. It's always better to have light from the side or behind the camera, but this was unavailable for this shoot. These shots required a lot of post processing to achieve any detail in the paddlers' faces.

Camera and mount:
I made a camera mount by screwing a 1' piece of pvc pipe to the tripod socket of the camera housing like a short monopod, which is inserted into a piece of aluminum tubing U bolted to the front of my PFD. A piece of shock cord holds the pvc in the aluminum tube, so the camera rests below my chin, then I can pull it up to take a shot. I have an LCD magnifier on the housing, which makes the screen on the point-and-shoot into a high-res viewfinder. The camera (Panasonic ZS15) was set for shutter priority - these shots were taken at 1/1600 sec at ISO 125, with about 150 - 200mm 35mm equivalent telephoto. I did not utilize the full zoom capability of this camera - I was around 7x max - because too much zoom on the water makes it too shaky,

Professional Final Editing:
I completed the zooming and other tasks during post production, then submitted the images to Carl for final editing.

Too much information?
