Re: Strip: Strip Thickness
In Response To: Re: Strip: Strip Thickness ()

I tried to cut a small batch of strips, and they are not the same thickness, so I will probably just send them through the planer.
But about the thickness, does anybody else use a planer to get the right thickness ?

How different in thickness are the strips? I wouldn't worry about small differences; the sanding will take care of that.

On a couple of strip builds I have been using 'leftover' strips cut at different times (with different saw setup, and possibly different ideas about the ideal strip thickness) so I have planed them to get the thickness identical.

This doesn't work well on most planers if the strips get too thin, or if the strips have sections where the grain is 'wavy' - the strip can 'explode' in the planer. So, be careful.
