Thank you all so much. These responses are so helpful. I was thinking to go ahead with the black walnut, but I think I will find some Peruvian walnut instead. I live in the Tri Cities, WA, with no good lumber suppliers that I know of. Even our little exotic wood supplier has stopped carrying planks, and reverted to basic local woods. I may end up having to go to Portland, or Seattle/Tacoma areas.
