I mean that you can't make that beautiful transition from light to dark with a stain, as it will run past the stain line. Trust me, I have tried.

Well.....

Yes, there are ways.

If you have the patience, one can mask off the edge of the dark wood and seal the light wood with clear shellac.

Then mask and press the tape edge to reduce possible bleeding.

The DYE, not stain, (I use TransTint) which does bleed can be removed by masking the dark edge and sanding of the bleeding edge.

The dark perimeter deck of this kayak is dyed.
