Yes, this is "normal" for MAS.

MAS does not cure to a smooth surface.

I coated a newly sanded wood deck hardware piece yesterday. I put it on my parts rotisserie to cure evenly.

It cured to a alligator's ass texture.

Did the same thing today with System Three epoxy and it's as smooth as glass.

That's the difference between MAS and System Three.

MAS cures in half the time but takes three times as long to sand smooth.
