What Scott said, but there are some 14 footers that might work for you. They won't be fast, but it doesn't sound like that's much of an issue. For new paddlers a shorter boat may well be faster up to a point.

The 9 - 10 footers tend to not track real well, wander around with each stroke of the paddle, they are a pain to paddle in a straight line, much less than 14 foot tend to do that.
