Strip: Sanity Check - How many strips?

I'm a little lost here on something I thought was trivial.

I'm very close to ripping my strips, I just wanted to run my math by you guys before I commit to a #.

* My book says I need ~75 strips, or about 1500 linear feet

* Nick's formula, not counting for overage, comes in at ~51 strips ( not counting the customary 20% to handle color matching and test fits)

* Nick's calculator shoots out this result:
This boat would require about 960 linear feet (292 meters) of strips, and will need about 60 feet (18.2 meters) of 6 inch (15 cm) wide boards Which based on that result says I'm very close to being short

* I have 6 x 5/4 boards that are 6" wide and 9 ft long

* I plan to rip 3/4 strips then turn them 90 deg to rip 3/16" strips

The boat length is 16'6"
The girth is 24"

Sorry - skipping to the chase...

Roughly how many 9' strips am I supposed to produce?

Thanks...
