Strip: foam bulkheads

hi,

i am getting towards the end of a strip-built night heron project. the hull and deck are still seperated and i am finishing up the prep for all fittings that can be done prior to joining the halves.

i thought this would also be a good time to get the foam bulkheads shaped....but am finding this material a bit awkward to work with. wanted to ask if there were any tips anybody might offer. a couple things i have noted -- the bulkheads don't happen to line up on any of the pre-cut frame sections....so while they are close....they are probably a quarter inch or so off. -- also with the width of the bulkhead foam being about 3 inches....there is definitely a difference in sizing from the fore to aft side of the bulkheads.

should i carefully using cardboard make new forms at the intended locations of the buklheads and use that to trim the foam? is there another technique? would like everything to be nice and tight and good looking (even though it is out-of site) and would appreciate any tips.

thanks

Howard
