Come to my house and see what the scars look like from trying to do stupid things with a hand electric plane. Please don't even give that a thought, you really don't want that kind of pain, trust me.

If you're worried about the strips twisting while drying, group them into good sized (like 2" x 4") bundles and tape them together ever foot or so with masking tape until they are dry. Keeps them straight as they dry. I do it for kits when doing classes when pieces need cut a long time before they are used.
