In Response To: Strip: Hatch question (Mark Vander Horck)

My two boats have different solutions.
1.File a 2 or 3 finger wide access /water drain "ramp" to allow for the fingers to access the edge[s] of the hatch with some filing of the underside of the hatch packer[mine have packer rims] in these areas. It works OK. Deck material is removed.
2.I have resorted to just using my orienteering compass's beveled edge, inserted in the gap on a straight part of the hatch perimeter and then getting my fingers underneath the hatch to lift it.I keep the compass in my life jacket pocket any way.A sort of security key.
I don't like knobs.
cheers from Paul.
