Hey Bill,

Well ... the F1 is 169.75" long and the length in your sketch is 167" ... so there's a bit of a discrepancy. I'll send ya a copy of my notes so you can see how I located stuff.

As to that first rib ... on mine the distance from the front edge of the back rest beam to the front edge of the rib you're referring to is 4.25" ... the reason is simple ... I didn't read Brian's note until after I made the mortices. I suppose Brian's 3" dimension would be better but in my case it's a non issue ... as I don't sit on that rib.

Hey Everybody,

I'm anxious to start building a Cape Falcon F1 designed by Brian Schultz.

I’d like one of you fine people to confirm where to put the very first rib of the F1….

Based on this line from Brian's web site…..
http://www.capefalconkayak.com/f1details.html
“The rib behind the cockpit should be shifted forward so the forward edge of that rib is 3 inches forward of the forward edge of the backrest deck beam.”

I’ve come up with the attached layout showing where I’d like to put the very first rib and where I’d like to put the aft deck beams. I intend to do all my other deck beam, cockpit and rib layout measurements from here.

Does my layout and the measurements shown look correct…..?

Thanks,
Bill
