I do not know where a set of sawhorses comes in on the tool spectrum, but I used gussets to cobble a pair of these together about a year ago and they securely hold onto a strongback that I have used for three boats.

Remove the strongback, turn them 90 degrees, and they hold onto padded cradles.

Remove the cradles, turn them back 90 degress, and they hold onto the varnishing rotisserie.
