I haven't had any problems using a skilsaw. My cutting table is topped with insulating foam which is high friction and does not damage the blade. A narrow kerf finish blade gives a clean cut with minimum waste, a plywood zero-clearance baseplate eliminates splintering and a long, perfectly-straight guide is essential to ensure the cut is straight all the way to the ends. I can cut twice as long a piece as I could with a table saw, and it's safer IMHO, although not as fast.
