I've been shot at a few times, never on the water though.
First time, while riding a bicycle, teenaged hunters shot a fence post between my friend in front and me. Shot came from the left, hit the post on my right about two feet in front of my head. The sound followed the post exploding so I turned and saw the moron lowering his rifle--laughing. Psychopath.
Another time, gang bangers hit my house with a 9mm from across the street (I'd seen the gun earlier). They did 6 months in juvie, don't think they recovered the weapon.
The stalker who went after me and a couple of neighbors never actually carried out any of his multiple threats, but he put a bullet through another house. I did the ballistics drawing and testified. 8 months, and 13 confiscated guns. (Two more guns in the hands of teenagers I reported to police were found where I'd reported, hand gun and sawed off shot gun. Brains are better than guns, I've helped get 15 off the street as proof).
I was riding up a fire road in the National Forest and some lunatic with an M-1 was clipping off rounds over the berm. These weren't aimed in my direction, and I was protected by the berm, but they went over head whistling and ripping trough the leaves.
I can usually tell the difference between 9mm and revolvers, heard them a lot in Los Angeles, but one day I was in my yard working on some project and kept hearing shots. There were so many I dismissed them as roofers with nail guns (cognitive dissonance), my neighbor shouted out the window that a guy three blocks away was holed up in his house shooting at police. A few hours later he set fire to the house and shot himself. ..
I guess the shovel murder up the street would be off topic....Then there were the times cars stopped and the windows rolled down, indicating a possible drive by... Probably posers.
A wanted poster we put up for New Years offering rewards elicited zero calls and zero arrests--but gun shots were non-existent. We figured the posters would make all the midnight shooters think a nosy neighbor would turn them in.
There are simply too many morons with too many guns--with their idiot politician enablers.

But as was said--HD video. Take their picture. During the LA riots there was only one conviction in our LAPD division--from my 35 mm B&W shots. None of the (then low res) video was good enough, but now--people hitting bicyclists are going down.
Keep the Glock, I'm packing GoPro!
