A few years back I was paddling along the river enjoying the peaceful summer day when I noticed someone hitting golf balls into the river from a bank that was 100 feet above me. I could see that there were two teenagers up there taking turns. I am always leery about passing under bridges or older children on the shore so I moved closer to the opposite side of the river. The kid teeing off spotted me on the river then immediately adjusted his aim to try to hit me. I was lucky he had a weak shot and I was enraged by his actions. I knew he could see me. If I could have climbed that bank (not possible due to steep.ess and instability) I might have tossed him into the river from height. That prick ruined the my peace of mind far more than the time a dead tree suddenly fell and missed my stern by a split second. There was nothing the police could have done because it would have been a full hour before I could have got to a phone. To be shot at would have destroyed my comfort level for paddling on the river for a very long time. Golf balls can be tracked and avoided for the most part: bullets...not at all.
