Re-curve near the stems is a classic design element which improves tracking, creating fine stem edges to cut the water cleanly.

Henry Rushton's Wee Lassie design has this feature, but many modern "Wee Lassie"
versions have removed this detail to simplify stripping.

My version of Rushton's design, my Wee Robbie has this feature and tracks incredibly
well for a short wide boat.

Here's a photo of my Wee Two with obvious re-curve at the stem. Another short boat 12' 6" that tracks well.
