: Nick,

: I've just finished a Night Heron and used it twice so far. I have
: found that if the boat is allowed to just slightly drift either
: left or right it's almost like a rudder is hard over and the
: boat really wants to go hard right or hard left. Would the skeg
: partially solve this?

Hi Chris, It helped a great deal only problem is when launching and landing but I used my skeg for at least 2yrs. and like it, made from scrap from the shop(can't beat that) used silicone to attach it and when it breaks simple to replace. I am not a marine engenier and this just came off the top of my head, I'm sure there are a lot of builders
on this forum that can give you a better design than I can but above all keep it simple. Hope this helps all the best Nick R.
