That's an easy one - it's a small square strip of wood placed at the bottom of the gunwhale going from the bow to just past the back of the cockpit. The idea is add a bit of roundness to the front hull but keep the sharpness of a hard chine at the back so you've got some rail/edge like action for the waves. I'm putting the skin on this weekend - maybe in the water sunday.
