I am not much good on an SUP but I have paddled a lot of them at the outdoor retailer show. I would say there are 4 primary catagories; Racing boards that are well designed use a lot of carbon cost a lot and are not in my zone so I ignore them (displacemetn haul). Good surf designs that are lighter than a strip board ever well be again are not in my zone and they make up maybe 20% of the market at most. The next category are junk boards with poor design and materials that probably make up 70% of the market. Next are displacement haul flat water recreational boards which are in the zone I am interested in. I liked Tahoe and Rogue and noticed this year there were 5 or 6 other manufacturers with some good stuff. A good comercial board will weigh less and cost plenty and move about as fast as a fat man in a hot tub. My kids really enjoy them and we are building another one this winter. You really need to decide how you are going to use it just like a kayak and then decide waht to look for.
