On the basis of this summer's paddling in our new Cape Ann Double I want to give a different perspective on "divorce boats". When we paddled our Guillemots it was generally mutual frustration and I often went off by myself. The conversation between our two boats was constantly "can't you go a bit faster?" and "why do you always want to go so fast ?" It was my wife's idea to get a double, as for me, I was not sure a double would make our paddling any happier. I imagined her paddling in what I considered her usual slack way, myself having to do most of the work, and our progress over the water as slow as in the singles. What a beautiful surprise when we launched the double. We go faster than I could go unaccompanied in my single. Partly of course because it's 4' - 5' longer than the singles and partly I think because my wife is afraid I will have a heart attack if she doesn't do her share of paddling. We have paddled together more and gone further this summer than ever before. I can't say I feel like I'm paddling a Ferrari the way I do in the Guillemot, the double feels a bit more like paddling a Greyhound bus but that doesn't matter. Thanks Vaclav for a great design, we call it a marriage mender rather than a divorce boat. Thanks to everyone on the Forum whose tips I absorbed during the build.
