There is not a lot of edge to edge pressure, only what you get from wrapping the string. Ergo, the pieces need to be accurately jointed. When you are dealing with 24" long pieces, you can joint them with a block plane. In this picture there are eight pieces being glued up at one time and the panel came out nice, with minimal sanding. It has been about 20 years since I last used this technique. (Also, I am neither Spanish, nor a luthier. ;)
