Yup!
I use end ties for boats on my VW Golf (only 3" longer than the Fit) and they seem pretty effective.
The front lines (NOT webbing straps- I like to see, and hate the thrumming-even when twisted) let me know if the boats are trying to move around.

That said, having the roof racks come adrift would be an extreme test of the end ties, but would probably let me get to the shoulder of the road before the boats became airborne.

It takes a bit of looking to find attachment points under the ends of the car, but it's worth the trouble, IMO.
(I've got bolted-on SS straps and rings/carabiners on the car now, after 10 yrs of rope and chain attachments.)
