It has been a while since I've bought lumber here in Tacoma. But a while back, I got good lumber by buying clear cedar at Gray Lumber on 6th Ave. I have also found some good lumber in Home Depot in the tight knot bin. Another option would be to go with thinner strips and buy fence boards. They won't be full length and will requite scarfing, but they are very cheap. One time, I went in and found they got a shipment of yellow cedar fence boards by mistake, and I bought enough for a whole kayak.
