I became a proficient kayaker, including rolling, a few months after joining a similar sounding club in CA, the California Kayak Friends. These very friendly people go the distance to bring newbies up to speed. I may have dropped out of kayaking by now if not for joining an excellent club. I know I would not be having as much fun in a kayak as I do now.

If you find a club that is not interested in advancing everyone's skills keep looking.

The bottom line: You join a club to learn; you don't learn so you can join a club.
