I am not sure how the CLC board is built but I believe it is glassed inside and out, or at least epoxy coated in and out so in that case yes, you could just have a drain plug. The drain plug would serve as the vent if you desired, but as I had mentioned you cannot forget to open it when you are done paddling because it only takes a few minutes in the heat, or perhaps a drive up a mountain on the way home to inflate one and crack it or delam.

Non-displacement hull SUP's, i.e. planing hulls, are usually built with glass only on the outside. For those if they get water inside they are ruined. That's why I say use the gore-tex vents instead of screw vent plugs on that type because if you leave the vent open by accident and you get water in the board then usually the wood swells and buckles and you have a mess. I have started sealing the insides of boards (the ones that I don't glass inside) with spray-on polyurethane, and have had failures (in this case cracking it open on the reef!) and the wood did not swell and it was an easy fix.

For the CLC Kaholo I assume you either glass it inside or at least glass the seams, but I would certainly epoxy coat the inside and if I could do that, then I would put a drain plug and two gore tex vents. The best of both worlds! Not sure how the deck goes on but seems you could epoxy coat the back side before you put it on.
