I guess it would work, but for me I would rather use the vents I posted in the link because the gore tex is protected and you could use the lash point to tie off a bungee for the hatch lid. If you did a gore-tex "home made" vent I would suggest sandwiching the gore tex between two pieces of plywood with holes drilled in each piece that line up together. That way the gore tex fabric doesn't get snagged on gear and pulled off.
