Definately don't do it. Even if the epoxy stuck, which I doubt it would, you would have a very poor bond. You want the epoxy to soak into the wood fibers. Pine darkens a lot with epoxy- much more than when you just wet it with water or alcohol. It turns dark over time. Probably the blotchiness won't be noticeable. Try epoxy on a sample. Leave it in the sun for a week. See how it looks.
