I made a 'large caliper' to measure breadths, and depths to sheerline, and used those measurements to position the laminated profiles properly on the drawing paper, making sure that the laminations had not distorted after removal from the boat.

If you do this, you'll probably need to make quite a few 'adjustments' at the drawing stage. Commercial boats can be surprisingly un-symmetrical; that's why I decided to take full sections (fold the drawing in half to compare sides) rather than just do half-sections from the hull.

Obviously, this technique can be used to pick up stem profiles, etc. as well.
Another tool for the toolbox....
